 |
Chartered in Moraga in 1974, the primary purpose of the Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley is to improve the quality of life for children and families worldwide by adhering to the Objects of Kiwanis International: to give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material, values of life; to encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships; to promote the adoption and application of higher social, business, and professional standards; to develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship; to provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build a better community, and to cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill. Community service activities include: Daffodil planting on public streets in Moraga; partner with the Moraga Lions Club in providing food service for the 4th of July and Pear & Wine Festival at the Commons; provide volunteers to harvest the pears from the JM orchard; conduct projects at the Moraga School District campuses; provide a pumpkin carving party the week of Halloween for the children at the low income Lakeside Apartment complex; provide volunteers to assist Monument Crisis Center with food distribution from their food pantry in Concord; partner with Target (Walnut Creek) to assemble/deliver school backpacks for children of the MCC families; provide volunteers to assist Friends of the Moraga Library with annual book sales.
