Moraga History – Infrastructure

The Infrastructure section was created to allow us to document the more recent history of stuff that still serves us today. This is a work in progess which goes hand in hand with our digitization strategy that is currently focused on our photo collection and selectively on our vertical file collection. Each of the Infrastructure topics will have its own web page which in turn will be an index to more specific topics with dedicated web pages. In 2026 we are focused on documenting Moraga’s history of volunteerism. When we are done you will be able to visit pages about specific volunteer organizations whose content will grow as we accumulate more history.

Buildings	The Buildings part of the Infrastructure section documents the history of notable buildings in Moraga such as the Moraga Barn, Hacienda and shopping centers.
Businesses	The Businesses part of the Infrastructure section highlights the history of Moraga businesses past and present such as the Moraga Grocery Store which today is home to Si Si Caffe.
Education	The Education part of the Infrastructure section features the history of past and present learning institutions within the former Moraga land grant.
Government	The Government part of the Infrastructure section deals with the history of government institutions such as the road to incorporation, the post office, the Navy’s Pre-Flight school on the SMC campus, the open space movement, and the planning history of the town.
Parks, Recreation, Sport, Arts	The Parks, Recreation, Sports and Arts part of the Infrastructure section casts a wide net to capture the history of activities in Moraga.
Ranches and Farms	The Ranches and Farms part of the Infrastructure section seeks to document the history of ranching, farming and logging within the Moraga land grant, some of which continues today.
Religion	The Religion part of the Infrastructure section covers the history of various religious institutions in Moraga.
Subdivisions	The Subdivisions part of the Infrastructure section tracks the development history of Moraga starting with the Old Town Site and Valle Vista subdivision.
Transportation	The Transportation part of the Infrastructure section covers Moraga’s history of roads, railways, trails and paths.
Utilities	The Utilities part of the Infrastructure section covers the history of key services such as power, water, sanitation, fire and police departments, and communications.
Volunteer Organizations	The Volunteer Organizations part of Infrastructure documents Moraga’s rich history of volunteerism broken down into 4 groups: those involved with shaping Moraga’s destiny, those striving to make Moraga a better place, those providing support and fundraising services, and those involed in youth activities such as sports and scouting.
