Volunteer Organizations: Rescue 1 Foundation

Founded in 1977, the mission of the Rescue 1 Foundation is to receive and administer donations to enhance public safety by providing advanced medical and safety equipment, supplies and educational services for the Moraga-Orinda Fire District. The Rescue 1 Foundation has provided supplies, training, and equipment thanks to community donations. Such equipment includes the Ambulance Decontamination Fogger, Stryker Gurney, DJI Inspire 2 Drone, Kubota RTV X1100, and Stokes Litter Tie-In System. Rescue 1 Scrapbook 1984-86
MHS Note: The first 5 pages of this 154 page scrapbook is a point by point summary of key developments during 1984-1986 when Ed Lucas replaced Don Skinner as fire chief and Rescue 1’s activities in support of developing the paramedic capacity of the Moraga Fire Department. In 1989 Fire Chief Lucas gave a talk to MHS about the history of the fire department which was recorded as a video. MHS has posted the video to YouTube and created a transcript along with photos and a topic breakdown of the talk which you can find in Voices of the Past featuring Ed Lucas on Nov 16, 1989. The remainder of the scrapbook is a chronological collection of newspaper clippings about the fire department and related Rescue 1 activities.
Organization Note: The above note was prepared by an MHS volunteer. This parallel section is reserved for a written contribution by somebody associated with the volunteer organization. We have turned Rescue 1 into a model of how we would like to collect and present historical information about Moraga’s volunteer organizations. The basic concept is that the organization prepares a pdf, which can consist of scanned photo albums and scrapbooks as Perrin Kliot has done for Rescue 1, or, if such do not exist, a powerpoint presentation that is converted into a pdf file. MHS would create the “banner” graphic above which would include the title page and a few interesting images.
